The problem

Short on land

Buffalo were nearly wiped out in the 1800s. More than a century of conservation work has brought their numbers back up, but most of today's buffalo live on commercial ranches. Only a small share live in conservation herds managed as wildlife, on scattered parks, refuges and tribal lands with no room to grow.

What we do

Our two programs

Land Acquisition

We raise money to buy and protect land where wild buffalo can live and grow their herds. A lack of habitat is the main thing holding buffalo recovery back, so that's where most of our effort goes.

Education & Outreach

We help people understand what wild buffalo need and why free-roaming herds are good for grasslands.
